What is the Washington Accord?
The Washington Accord (WA) is a multilateral agreement under the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) that recognizes the accreditation of professional engineering degree programs at the undergraduate level (typically 4 years or more). It focuses on the development of graduates capable of addressing complex engineering problems through design, analysis, and innovation.
Requirement to Apply for TABEE Accreditation (Washington Accord)
1. Being a full-time undergraduate engineering program or equivalent with a study period of 4 academic years and a total credit not less than 120 credits. The curriculum structure must include:
- Basic mathematics and science knowledge in higher education (including laboratory course) totaling not less than 30 credits.
- Engineering knowledge covering basic and advance engineering knowledge of each discipline sufficient to use in designing and appropriately solving problems according to engineering requirements, totaling not less than 45 credits.
- General education knowledge (In accordance with the requirements of the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation), total 24 credits.
2. The course must have engineering internship and engineering projects to solve complex engineering problems or engineering design in the 4th year (Capstone Design Project or Capstone Design Course).
3. Being a new or revised curriculum with 2 classes of graduates minimum.
4. If any fields or sub-fields of a program wish to obtain the TABEE recognition, such fields or sub-fields must present complete assessments and teaching arrangements that show the results. TABEE will evaluate only the fields or sub-fields that submit complete information according to the evaluation criteria.
5. TABEE recognizes both regulated and non-regulated engineering disciplines.
6. Maximum recognition period is 6 years. The TABEE recognition applied to those who graduate in the recognized years.

- Bachelor of Engineering programs (e.g., B.Eng. in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical)
- Strong theoretical foundation, design capability, and analytical skills
- Emphasis on Capstone Design Projects addressing Complex Engineering Problems

Accreditation Process under WA (TABEE)
1. Institution submits application and Self-Assessment Report (SAR)
2. TABEE reviews compliance with WA-based criteria
3. Program Evaluator Team (PEV) conducts an on-site evaluation
4. Engineering Accreditation Committee (EAC) reviews and recommends
5. TABEE Subcommittee approves and reports to the Council of Engineers
