The Council of Engineers Thailand (COET), through the Thailand Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (TABEE), participated as an observer in the accreditation visit of an engineering program under the Washington Accord, conducted by the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) at Utsunomiya University, Japan, on 20–21 October 2025. The observation aimed to promote mutual learning and exchange best practices in international engineering education accreditation.
Through this engagement, COET gained valuable insights into Outcome-Based Education (OBE), learning outcomes assessment, the roles and responsibilities of program evaluators, and JABEE’s quality assurance system, which emphasizes evidence-based evaluation, continuous improvement, and flexibility in program implementation aligned with institutional contexts.
In addition, JABEE shared its experience in supporting Indonesia through the JICA technical cooperation project, which successfully strengthened Indonesia’s national accreditation body (IABEE) enabled it to achieve full signatory status under the Washington Accord. This case serves as an important reference for Thailand’s ongoing development. This observation is part of COET’s continued efforts to strengthen Thailand’s engineering education accreditation system in alignment with international standards, enhance readiness toward full Washington Accord signatory status, and promote global recognition of Thai engineering graduates’ competencies.
