The Council of Engineers Thailand (COET), through the Thailand Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (TABEE), participated as an observer in a Washington Accord accreditation visit conducted by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, Kuching, Malaysia, on 16–18 September 2025.

The accreditation visit covered three engineering programs: Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), Mechanical, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, all undergoing a new accreditation cycle under the Washington Accord. The observation provided COET with valuable insights into BEM’s accreditation framework, organizational structure, and quality assurance mechanisms for engineering and engineering technology programs.

As a member of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA), BEM conducts accreditation in line with the Washington Accord, Sydney Accord, and Dublin Accord, supported by a well-structured Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) and Engineering Accreditation Department (EAD). The accreditation process emphasizes outcome-based education, minimum program requirements, a transparent evaluation process, and clearly defined accreditation decision criteria.
COET’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening Thailand’s engineering education accreditation system, aligning TABEE practices with international standards, and enhancing global recognition of Thai engineering graduates.
